Junior Ladder
The object of the ladder is to get as high of a ranking as possible by the end of the season. The top 8 players will compete in an elimination tournament the weekend of September 5 - 7.
Challenges & Rankings
Initial ladder rankings will be based on players’ UTRs. Players are welcome to join at any time midseason, but new additions will start at the bottom of the ladder.
Players move up the ladder by challenging higher ranked players and winning the match
If the challenger wins, they move immediate above the defeated player in the rankings.
If the challengers loses, then both players maintain the same ranking
In general, players can only challenge players a maximum of 3 ranks above them, except:
Players ranking 10th or below can challenge players a max of 4 ranks above them.
Wild-Card Challenges: every player on the ladder can use one and only Wild-Card Challenge during the season to challenge any players on the ladder
Rules and Restrictions
If a player has not played a match within a three-week period while the player one rank below has been active, the inactive player drops one spot in the rankings.
Players must accept a challenge. They can only refuse if they already have two incoming pending challenges which have yet to be played.
Players must respond to a challenge within 48 hours by phone or text to discuss and set an agreeable time for the match to take place, discussions can be ongoing thereafter.
Match Play Format
The players will play two sets, with no-ad scoring, first to 6 games.
If a set is tied at 6 - 6, a tiebreak played to 7 points (win by 2) will decide the set.
If the players split sets, a super-tiebreak played to 10 points (win by 2) will decide the match.
If a decisive super-tiebreak is tied with 1-minute remaining in the allotted court time, one sudden-death point will be played.
If a player loses the first set but is leading the second set by at least one game, and there are no more than 15 minutes remaining in the allotted court time, that player will be awarded the second set by the Strand employee monitoring the match. Then a super-tiebreak will decide the match.
A player who shows up 5 or more minutes late automatically loses the “spin to serve.” A player who is 10 minutes late also starts down 1 - 0; 15 minutes late starts down 2 - 0; after 20 minutes, the player who showed up claims the win by default.
